This black walnut table was built specifically for a small apartment entry hall. The experience was fun working with special wood. The crotch wood again shows its beauty.
While working on hall table, I found this piece. The piece was 8‛ x 2" x 8" and had knots in it. Because I couldn’t cut out the knots, I left them in. It is the “high heel table.”
The kids are gone and now I have time. In 1975 we cut down a southern Minnesota River bottom black walnut tree and hauled it to a sawmill. I had it sawn to 5/4” thickness, parafined the ends, and stored it for natural drying. I’ve now taken the wood and planed it and have started building furniture with it.
