At the beginning of 2014, I walked past a display of Christmas ornaments in a big box store. I thought why not try those. The pieces are made of black walnut and soft maple, quite similar in style, and finished well.

- The kids are gone and now I have time. In 1975 we cut down a southern Minnesota River bottom black walnut tree and hauled it to a sawmill. I had it sawn to 5/4” thickness, parafined the ends, and stored it for natural drying. I’ve now taken the wood and planed it and have started building furniture with it.
