Large Turnings

The final installation of turnings before the art sale this upcoming weekend (September 14-16th). If you'd like more information on the other artists joining me at the art sale check out the abnet farm art show blog.

We will start with two smaller pieces. Though they are small, they are special. They are made from driftwood picked up on my honeymoon.

The next two are similar to previous pieces, where there are multiple types of wood. However, these are much larger then the previous ones.

And to finish off, these two started out as one piece of wood, trimmed down and turned into a base with a lid. Both of these have unique and beautiful natural blemishes.

Custom Dresser (not for sale)

This solid black walnut dresser was a gift for my wife. It has self-closing hidden drawer glides and many custom details. It is finished on all four sides, unlike many purchased furniture pieces, so it would not be an eye-sore from the back.

Turnings

As I hunted through my small pile of walnut, I found some small pieces. With those I tried something new. These bowls are one piece—each bowl and cover—and have burl quality; they stack either way.

Scraps of red oak, walnut, teak, paduk and others were glued together to make the item on the left. The turning on the right is made of maple, black walnut, and white oak became the full body of this oriental looking piece.

A grouping of a variety of pieced together turnings.

Entry Tables

This black walnut table was built specifically for a small apartment entry hall. The experience was fun working with special wood. The crotch wood again shows its beauty.

While working on hall table, I found this piece. The piece was 8‛ x 2" x 8" and had knots in it. Because I couldn’t cut out the knots, I left them in. It is the “high heel table.”
